GST billing and books for Indian shops

The books, not just
the bill book.

Invoices, purchases, stock, udhaar and your bank statement in one place, with GST worked out correctly as you bill. Print on A4 or a thermal roll, send on WhatsApp, and hand your accountant one file at the end of the quarter.

What's inside

Everything a registered shop has to keep track of.

Not a bill book with extras bolted on. Each of these is a screen someone uses every week, and each one feeds the returns at the end of the quarter.

Every document a shop issues

Each type on its own consecutive series, which is what the law actually asks for.

  • GST tax invoices, retail cash bills, bills of supply
  • Quotations that convert to an invoice in one click
  • Delivery challans for goods that move before billing
  • Credit and debit notes that settle the original bill

Money in, and who is holding it

Udhaar you can act on, not a number you look at.

  • Payments against any bill, part payments included
  • Udhaar by customer, sorted by how overdue
  • A scan-to-pay UPI QR for the balance, not the total
  • Running ledger per customer and supplier

Bank statement reconciliation

Upload the statement, tick off which bill each line paid.

  • Reads CSV and Excel from any Indian bank
  • Matches on the UTR, not on a truncated name
  • Says so when two bills fit equally, instead of guessing
  • Re-upload an overlapping month and nothing doubles

Buying and input tax credit

The half of GST that decides what you actually pay.

  • Purchase bills with the tax transcribed as printed
  • Reverse charge, both directions, with payment vouchers
  • GSTR-2B reconciliation against the portal
  • Purchase returns and non-bill expenses, kept apart

Stock that matches the shelf

Weighted average on an append-only ledger, so a number can always be explained.

  • Opening stock on-ramp and CSV item import
  • Low-stock alerts against a reorder level
  • Barcode generation, 50×25 mm labels, scan to bill
  • Adjust by a difference or set what you counted

What your accountant asks for

Prepared while you bill, not reassembled in July.

  • GSTR-1 JSON for portal upload, and the Excel tables
  • A single accountant workbook, every register in it
  • Tally export for the accountant who lives in Tally
  • Profit report, with what it cannot see disclosed
New

Your bank statement, against your bills.

Download the statement your bank already gives you as CSV or Excel, upload it, and tick off which bill each line paid. What used to be an evening with two windows open is a few minutes.

It reads your bank, whichever one it is

Indian banks share no statement format. Some use separate withdrawal and deposit columns, some one amount with a Dr/Cr letter, and the date is written differently on each. It recognises the common ones. For anything it has not seen, it asks you which column is which, once, and remembers it for that bank.

It matches on the reference, not the name

A UTR is issued by the payment system and appears on both sides of the same transfer. A payer name arrives truncated by the bank, which is exactly how a confident wrong match happens.

It tells you when it does not know

Two bills of the same amount look identical to a statement. It says so and lets you pick, rather than ranking one first. Nothing is ever recorded without you clicking the bill you mean.

It is reversible, and it never doubles

Undo removes the payment from the bill. Re-upload an overlapping month and the lines you already have are counted and skipped.

Worth being clear about

It does not connect to your bank.

We will never ask for your net-banking login, and we store only the last four digits of your account number.

Live bank feeds in India run through the RBI's Account Aggregator framework, and only companies regulated by the RBI, SEBI, IRDAI or PFRDA can join it as a data user. An accounting app does not qualify on its own.

So anyone selling you a “direct bank connection” is either a regulated company, is using a licensed aggregator in between, or is asking for your password. We would rather tell you that here than have you find out later.

You download the file. We read it. That is the whole arrangement.
Correct, not just quick

The sections your auditor will ask about.

Most billing apps get the arithmetic right and the law approximately right. These are handled while you bill, rather than argued about at year end.

Rule 46 and Rule 49

Tax invoice and bill of supply particulars, each on its own consecutive series with no gaps.

Section 10, IGST Act

Place of supply decides CGST + SGST or IGST. Not a dropdown you have to remember.

Section 9(3) / 9(4)

Reverse charge declared on the bill, held outside the supplier total, with a section 31(3)(g) payment voucher on payment.

Section 15(2)(c) and 15(3)

Freight and packing enter taxable value and are apportioned across lines. On-invoice discounts reduce it.

Section 34

Credit and debit notes against the original bill, with Rule 53(1A) particulars.

Rule 48

Original for Recipient, Duplicate for Transporter, Triplicate for Supplier, marked on the copy.

Section 17(5)

Blocked credit flagged so it never enters the ITC total.

72-month retention

An issued bill is voided, never deleted. The number stays, so the series has no gap for an officer to read as a suppressed sale.

What it does not do: file your returns. The GST portal does not accept a return from a billing app without the taxpayer signing it. It produces the GSTR-1 JSON, the tables as Excel, and an accountant workbook. A human still files.

Counter, pocket, printer

It prints the way your shop already prints.

Some shops hand over an A4 sheet, some a thermal receipt with the GST breakup on it. Both are supported, chosen once in Settings, and the same bill prints correctly either way.

On the counter
  • A4 and A5, retail or wholesale layout
  • 2-inch and 3-inch thermal receipt rolls
  • 50×25 mm barcode labels
  • Rule 48 copy marking on every print
In your pocket
  • Android app, and installable on any phone
  • Today's sales and pending udhaar
  • Quick retail bills, working offline
  • Send any bill as a PDF on WhatsApp

One honest note about thermal printers. Printing straight to a USB thermal printer from the browser needs Chrome or Edge, and on Windows the printer driver holds the device so the browser cannot. Where that happens the app says why in plain words and prints the same receipt through the printer's own driver instead: the identical bill, on the same roll. It never fails silently.

Questions people actually ask

Before you move your books.

Does it connect to my bank?
No, and be careful with anyone who says they do. A live bank feed in India runs through the RBI's Account Aggregator framework, and only companies regulated by the RBI, SEBI, IRDAI or PFRDA can join it as a data user. A billing app is not one of those. Anyone offering a “direct bank connection” is either regulated, using a licensed aggregator in between, or asking for your net-banking password and logging in as you.

What we do instead: you download the statement your bank already gives you, and upload it. We never ask for your banking login, and we store only the last four digits of your account number.
Will it file my GST returns?
No. It prepares them. You get the GSTR-1 JSON ready to upload to the portal, the same figures as Excel, and a workbook your accountant can work from.

The portal does not accept a return from a billing app without the taxpayer signing it, so any software claiming to file for you is describing something else.
I use Tally. Does this replace it?
Usually not, and it is not trying to. Tally is a double-entry accounting system; this is the billing and stock book that feeds one. Most shops run the counter here and hand their accountant an export. There is a Tally export built for exactly that, plus an accountant workbook.

Where this is ahead of a Tally setup for a shop: it works on a phone, it bills offline, it reconciles your bank statement, and nobody has to be trained on it.
What happens to my data if I leave?
You export it. Every register is available as Excel at any time, plus the Tally export and the GSTR-1 files, and you do not need an active subscription to have already downloaded them.

Note that GST requires issued invoices to be retained for 72 months, so closing an account does not delete the billing records inside it. That is written into the privacy policy rather than buried.
Can my counter staff use it without seeing everything?
Yes. Staff bill and print. They cannot delete a recorded payment, void a tax document, manage users, or open the bank statement. A statement is the whole business in one list, and there is no reason for a counter hand to be reading it.
Does it work when the internet drops?
Retail billing does. A bill raised offline is queued on the device and synced when the connection returns, carrying an idempotency key so a retried sync cannot mint a second bill with a fresh number. That would show up in GSTR-1 as a sale that never happened.

Long wholesale invoices, purchases and reports need a connection.

Start billing this afternoon.

Create the account, enter your shop details once, and issue your first GST invoice. Nothing to install on the counter machine.
